Puerto Rico Part 2- 4 Perfect Things to do With Kids

Oh my!! I have being so lazy, coming back from vacation really left me pooped. And… on top of that we have been packing because we have to move in less than a month. Sooo finally I get to share my Puerto Rico Adventure- Part 2, Yeahh! For this part of the trip we stayed in my mom’s house in Bayamon. All of our activities for the last two weeks took place around the north-east area also known as the “Metro” area.  We went to new and old places where the kids and I played, learned, relaxed and ate, Ohh I ate!! … all of my additional 5 lbs  😉

Every day after the kids swimming lessons we took them for activities  where they could have fun, be safe and wouldn’t break the bank! Our 4 favorite spots on our trip….. drumm rollll…..

Parque Luis Muñoz Marin

Luis Muñoz Marin park really surprised me!! I can’t remember the last time I was there but I can say it has been more than 20 years. This park was closed for renovations and open again on 2017. After hurricane Maria hit the island it closed again but fortunately it was open when we were vacationing. It has all of the following amenities:

  • water splash fountains
  • shallow pool
  • variety of playgrounds
  • bicycle rental for the whole family
  • gazebos for activities
  • food carts
  • dog park
  • elevated catwalk for nature watching
  • Trail for a nature walk
  • and lots more

Of course the kids wanted to start with the water fountains and who can blame them!! It is summer and hot and your body just asks for it!! Then off we went for an unavoidable snack stop and discovered a beautiful green area where we sat and enjoyed our surroundings.

And… because they were still not tired we went for a walk to the playgrounds and a must stop for them to climb the biggest spider web I have seen!

I can not say enough good things about this park, the surroundings, safety all over, cleanliness at every corner , WE JUST LOVED IT!!

Tips for a great day

  • Opening days Wednesday -Sunday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
  • $2.00 per person , $3.00 per car. Over 65 yrs free. One great thing they have is that after 3 pm the entrance is free!!
  • Bring sunblock!!, specially during summer the sun is intense.
  • Mosquito repellent
  • Snack/Water- Even though they have food carts if you want to save money you can bring your own.
  • Bring the kids bathing suits. They require shirts(or rash guards) and girls need to wear shorts.
  • Bring the kids towels and dry clothes.
  • Charge your phone or camera. Great time to take great pictures.

This is a must visit place!! the price, the surroundings……. hands down a great place to go.

Posita de Condado

For days that we only wanted to chill we went to a beach surrounded by the bust and hustle of Condado. This area has a lot of tourist visiting but it is also a great spot for any local. We went on a week day, weekends would be too crowded for my taste.

Great for kids with its shallow clear waters! They have food cart and umbrellas and chair rental service! You don’t need to pack a lot 😉

Old San Juan

Old San Juan has been one of my favorite spots since forever. It is a Spanish old town with plenty to do for days!!! With the kids I had to break it up due to the heat, it can get too intense and they would not enjoy it.

Our first day we stuck to the lower part at the Paseo de la Princesa. It is a long walkway with amazing views.

We continued our walk among beautiful trees and centuries old historic buildings. This is like being transported to another era you can picture yourself living here all of those years ago… it is a gem!

Tips for a great day

  • Bring your kite, they have a sell stand but it will be more expensive.
  • Saying that..bring cash; most of the local vendors only accept cash.
  • Bring change, there is a bathroom that cost a $.25 and you would not want to make get to the bathroom and not being able to use it. YEAP (hahaha) it happened to me but they let me used it and then I brought the money.
  • Bring sunblock!!, specially during summer the sun is intense.
  • Mosquito repellent
  • Snack/Water- Even though they have food carts if you want to save money you can bring your own.

and last but not least….

Museo del Niño de Carolina

The kids love this place and over the years they have added more great activities for the whole family. This museum encourages kids and adults to explore science, music, art, nature, daily life amongst all of their exhibitions.

We started outside, the boys raced cars  while us girls cheered them on!!

Then they tried to feed the ducks but ended up running  away from them.
